Outpost Trips

Adventure education at it finest! Youth will build resilience, make friends and gain new skills while tent camping, paddling and cooking outdoors.

Pick your adventure to match participant skill level

Introduce youth to tent camping while still having all of the conveniences and programming of Basecamp

Trip length: 2-3 nights

Minimum age: 10 (entering 5th grade)

  • Sleep in tents but have access to indoor plumbing and hot showers.
  • Eat in our Dining Hall and/or make your own meals over the campfire.
  • Choose from regular programming AND unique Outpost programming such as stargazing and extended hikes on the North Shore.

Spend time on the mainland, followed by paddling, exploration and camping on Blackhawk Island

Trip length: 2-4 nights

Minimum age: 12 (entering 7th grade)

  • Spend the first night in tents on the mainland, building skills, confidence and friendships.
  • Graduate to camping on Blackhawk Island at our private, primitive campsite.
  • Your Upham guide can lead swimming, paddling, some big adventures, and more from your homebase on the island.

Begin your adventure by paddling the Wisconsin River and return to the Upham Woods camping experience

Trip length: 2-4 nights

Minimum age: 12 (entering 7th grade)

  • After preparations at Upham Woods, transport your youth upriver to a canoe launch site.
  • Canoe down the WI river. Several route lengths are available for this epic adventure, ending at Blackhawk Island.
  • Prerequistites include leaders attending a scouting trip with Upham Woods staff ahead of time.
