Experience a fun and exciting hike through Upham Woods at night and learn about the special adaptations of nocturnal animals. Sensory awareness activities during the hike will teach students how to better use their night vision and other senses to navigate more comfortably in the dark. Remember to wear warm clothes and closed-toed shoes and turn your flashlights off.
Accessibility notes: Naturalists encourage students to participate without artificial lights so that students’ eyes can adjust to seeing in the dark. If this is not possible for your students, flashlights can be used. Activities from a night hike can also take place in one central location, such as the basketball court, to instill an appreciation for the night without the need for a hike.
