Come fishing with Upham Woods! Students will learn basic fishing techniques, understand fish habitats and apply this knowledge to actual fishing. This 1-2 hour lesson is based on the Wisconsin DNR junior angler lesson plan. Younger students will play backyard bass, while older students will use rods with closed face reels.
Adult modifications: Adults can take this class as is and learn to fish with our staff or take our Angler instructor training which focuses on learning to teach fishing to others using the DNR angler education curriculum.
Accessibility notes: This class usually takes place near our canoe launch on the sandy shore which requires traversing uneven terrain. Different fishing locations can be discussed. Upham Woods also has assistive devices to support fishing including a wheelchair mount to hold the pole, a wrist attachment to hold the pole, and an assistive reeling device.
