Do you have an exotic pet you can no longer care for?
If so, don’t release it into the wild! Instead, you can bring your pet to the Exotic Pet Surrender Event!
- Area organizations will accept fish, invertebrates, reptiles, pet birds, small mammals, and plants without questions.
- Domestic pets like dogs, cats, rabbits, pigs, and chickens are not accepted. Owners of domestic animals should inquire with local pet shelters or rescues for options for rehoming their pets.
There will be animal ambassadors you can meet and learn about, as well as a photo booth where you can take your picture with a rescued pet!
- Some areas have no rehoming options for exotic animals such as fish, birds, and reptiles. Some pet owners who cannot care for their pets may think that releasing the animal is right; however, releasing a pet harms the animal and the environment.
- J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue (JRAAR) is hosting the May 4th event with help from several other area organizations, including the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant/Water Resources Institutes.
